The Big Apple turns Tartan when Tartan Day on Ellis Island officially opens NY Tartan Week on Saturday, March 31, 2012.

 

With exhibitions, fashion shows, whisky tastings, cocktail receptions, and live music – it must be Tartan Week - make that Tartan Fortnight - in New York City. In addition to Clan Currie’s annual observance of Tartan Day at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum and the spectacular "From Scotland with Love" fashion show, Tartan Week in New York will again offer something for everyone.

 

The following is a listing of some of the key events taking place during New York Tartan Week 2012:

 

 

The Clan Currie Society opens Tartan Week with their 11th annual observance of Tartan Day at the Ellis Island Immigration Museum. The Ellis Island event will include the opening of a new exhibition entitled, "An Leabhar Mòr" - The Great Book of Gaelic. Produced in cooperation with the Gaelic Arts Agency of Scotland, the program will also feature performances by pipers, highland dancers and others that repersent Scotland's "portable culture" brought by Scottish immigrants to America.

 

 

 

 

 

A star-studded evening of fashion and fun promoting 'all things Scottish' and a showcase for the principle that 'Made in Scotland' is a benchmark of the very best in the world.

 

Presented by Friends of Scotland, a national non-profit corporation dedicated to advancing contemporary Scottish interests and meeting contemporary Scottish needs in the US, proceeds will benefit US and British veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The New York City Tartan Day Parade will take place at 2:00 PM. The parade steps-off at West 45th Street, marching north on the Avenue of the Americas to 58th Street.
